Why is Everyone Talking About Pickleball

Pickleball is a fun mix of tennis, badminton and table tennis, but easier to pick up, easier on the body, and way more social.
You don’t need to be sporty. You don’t need to be young. You just need to show up. You pick the intensity you want to play at!

It’s played on a small court with a paddle and a plastic ball. Games are short, fun, and full of laughs. Whether you’re 8 or 80, it’s the perfect way to move, meet people, and fall in love with being active again.

HOW DID IT START

Pickleball was invented in 1965 by three dads on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum wanted to create a game that would keep their kids entertained during the summer.

WHY PICKLEBALL

The game got its name from the Pritchard family’s dog, Pickles. Whenever they played, Pickles would chase after the ball and run off with it, hence the name “Pickleball.”

WHO CAN PLAY

Pickleball is a sport that brings people of all ages together. It is popular among both younger and older generations, providing a fun and accessible activity for everyone to enjoy.

HOW BIG IS THE COURT

Pickleball courts are smaller than traditional tennis courts. They measure 20 feet wide and 44 feet long, which makes them more suitable for players of various ages and skill levels.

WHAT DO I NEED

Pickleball is played with a solid paddle made of wood or composite materials and a plastic ball with holes, similar to a wiffle ball. The unique combination of the paddle and ball allows for precise shots and strategic gameplay.
